Uplands MTB Festival 2014

The annual Uplands MTB Festival drew a large crowd to the Eastview BMW Uplands Festival on Sunday 1 June with close to 600 entrants competing in a choice of distances: 50km Classic, 19km Challenge and 5km Fun Ride.

The main sponsors of the event were Valencia and Caltex.

Results from the 50km Classic
Lourens Luus (01:51:17) narrowly beat Hennie Kriek (01:55:06) and Nohan van Tonder (01:55:06) to take first place in the Mens Senior/Sub Vet category. The Ladies 50km Classic was tightly contested with Dalene van der Leek (02:09:42) coming first just ahead of Amy McDougall (02:12:05) and Samantha Sanders (02:15:22).

Liam de Klerk (01:57:56) and Andreas Kuhn (01:57:56) came within milliseconds of each other to be the first male Juniors over the line. Mandi Swart (02:47:24) took the honours as the first female Junior to cross the line.

Results from the 19km Challenge
Kobus Pretorius (00:48:522) was the first male rider (Junior) over the line in the 19km Challenge and Monique Swart (01:01:06) was the first female (Sub Junior) over the line.

Luc Mellaart (01:03:27) was the first Sprog over the line in the 19km Challenge, narrowly beating Robert Ferreira (01:03:29).

Results from the 5km Fun Ride
Chad Smith (00:15:27) proudly took first place as the first male Nipper over the line, narrowly beating Lomar Botha (00:15:30). Rene Ferreira (00:24:55) and Demi Plaath (00:24:55) crossed the line at the same time to be the first two female Nippers to finish the race.
