Preview: Doctor’s apathy results in home birth

ACORNHOEK – A baby recently had to be delivered at home by her grandmother and aunt, because her mother’s doctor does not work on weekends.

Suné Vermaak was born at 04:15 on Sunday February 5, almost a full day after her mother, Ms Marlie Vermaak, went into labour.

Last Saturday, at around 08:00, Vermaak, who was 39 weeks pregnant, started feeling contractions.
