Skukuza booked out for half-marathon in 2014

Runners enjoy the picturesque views of the Kruger National Park at this year's Skukuza Half Marathon.

SKUKUZA – This camp in the Kruger National Park (KNP) will be booked out for the half-marathon runners in August 2014.

This announcement from South African National Parks (SANParks) comes ahead of the opening of August 2014 bookings on September 2.

“Since it was first initiated in 1988, the Skukuza Half Marathon has been one of the most prestigious marathons in South Africa,” says KNP spokesman Laura Mukwevho.

In order to manage the event efficiently, SANParks has decided to keep all accommodation for participants and their families.

“This means that when August 2014 accommodation reservations open at 07:30 on September 2, visitors will be unable to reserve any accommodation in Skukuza for the nights of

August 1-2, 2014.

All other camps will be open for reservations over that weekend,” she says.

“In the SANParks Responsible Tourism Strategy, one of the key aspects identified for improvement, is that of enhanced visitor management, which includes limitation of participants’ impact on the experience of other visitors,” says KNP managing executive: tourism development and marketing, Glenn Phillips.

Marathon runners are advised to book accommodation through the Skukuza Marathon Club event coordinator.
