Young Lowvelders shine at pageant

The models achieved outstanding results.

TSHWANE – Lowvelders have known it for decades and South Africa is starting to see it as well – our region is blessed with the most beautiful people in the country. This was proved when six young locals walked away with arms full of prizes at the Mr and Miss Junior South Africa pageants earlier this month.

The newspaper sat down with these prize winners and got to know them a little better. Janco Visser (14) is Mr Junior Petite Teen South Africa. Janco was a chatty young man, which earned him the best interview award. “I made a lot of friends,” he said. He is an avid rugby player and his hero is Jean de Villiers.

Fellow sportsman Kyle Saunders (9) is an avid cricket player and won the competition’s pre-teen title.

These two were joined by Ruan Cloete (17), who was crowned as first prince in the Mr Junior South Africa competition. He enjoys modelling as it has given him a lot of confidence. Ruan also enjoys going to the gym, drawing pencil sketches and riding his motorbike.

The girls who held the Lowveld’s name high in the Miss Junior South Africa pageant were Tylo Roux (14), Meggan Kleynhans (12) and Aqeela Jansen van Rensburg (6). Tylo won the Face of South Africa award and was also the winner of Mpumalanga’s Miss Junior South Africa competition. “I believe that it is important to look your best at all times,” she reiterated. Meggan won the provincial round of the competition and was also awarded the Miss Junior Teen South Africa’s Face of South Africa award. Aqueela was crowned Miss Tiny Junior South Africa. “There were many new friends and we had a lot of fun,” she said. “We wore beautiful dresses. It was lovely.”

Ms Manda Gomes, the group’s coach and owner of Ramps to Runway model school, was very proud of their achievements.
