Couple celebrate 69 years of love

MBOMBELA – It has been nearly 69 years since they said “I do” and the love between them still burns bright as ever.

Fred and Daphne Naudé got married in 1946 after only three months of knowing each other. She was a wireless operator for the Royal Air Force and he was a transport sergeant for the South African Army. They met in Italy on April 5 and married on July 31. Daphne was 18 and Fred 22.

They have seven children, the youngest of whom are 57-year-old twins. To date, they have 41 descendents, including 16 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Daphne turns 88 this year and Fred has just turned 91.
