Saturday night at Stoep: Gerald Clark

Gerald Clark.

Dynamic musician Gerald Clark will perform at Stoep on Saturday.

Gerald Clark has released four successful albums of which one, Sweepslag, was nominated for a South African Music Award (SAMA). Clark’s second album, Black Water, gave him international success when the title track’s music video was nominated for an MTV  Europe Animation Award. One of the original compositions from this album was also featured as the theme song for ‘Jo’burg To Sea Mountain Bike Race’ on DSTV’s SuperSport, giving him exposure to a primetime television audience – yet another victory for his second album. Clark’s third album, Follow the River, was well received by fans and the media with five songs making it onto national airwaves.

Gerald has worked with Valiant Swart, Bok van Blerk, Heinz Winkler, Fokofpolisiekar, Gian Groen, Luna Paige, Van Coke Kartel and Albert Frost to name only a few, and has played throughout the country at all the major festivals and venues: KKNK, Oppikoppi, Up the Creek, Splashy Fen, Kirstenbosch Gardens, Citrusdalfees, The Blues Summit and more. He took his music to international grounds and toured Namibia and London with Bok van Blerk, and he got a taste of the original blues while performing in Nashville, Jackson, and Memphis, USA. He took his golden voice to Czech Republic and did a 20 show, 20 town, 20 day tour, where he was honoured with soldout shows and standing ovations, one after the other.

Gerald Clark is more than just a talented musician. In 2014 he produced a show with Fokofpolisiekar, Valiant Swart and Heinz Winkler at the Barnyard Theatre in aid of the Fast Forward Fund. The event was featured on Kwêla, in Die Burger and Rapport, and a number of radio stations, reaching millions of consumers. Currently, he is involved with the Ray of Sunshine Home for Abandoned Babies and he helps to collect needed funds, food, and additional baby goods for the home.

AfroBoer & the GoldenGoose Clark has developed dynamic musical ideas and brought it to life whilst collaborating with the country’s best musicians in his latest and 4th offering, namely AfroBoer & The Golden Goose. He wrote the album over the course of 2 years and recorded it in a historic farmhouse in Wellington, Western Cape in January 2015.

It took him almost a year to complete because he was set on finding the perfect sound to fit the songs as well as his sound. For the album, which was produced by Clark himself and Tim Rankin from Ttime Studio, Clark found inspiration in personal growth and new experiences; lessons learnt and being able to see the bigger picture.

The unique setup of the recording added to Clark’s strive for authenticity on the album. Although his previous albums were recorded at standard studios, for this one he had the guitar amps in the rooms of the farmhouse and the band in the living room. He also used 2 drummers on some of the songs. The result: A fresh rock ’n roll sound with the deep seated blues elements he so loves on an album of
international standard.

In April 2016, Clark received a WoordTroFee nomination for Best Solo Act at the Stellenbosch Woordfees. He was nominated alongside Yvonne Chaka Chaka and Greta van der Merwe.

Tickets will cost R80. Phone Stoep at 013-741-2551 to book your spot.
