Team Penryn strike gold in Barberton

Nombuso Khoza won the school’s first gold medal in the u/16 girls’ shot put and opened a way for more golden achievements by her peers.

Makoni Bethel won the 200-metre and 100-metre u/17 girls’ sprints. She added another gold in the girls’ u/17 long jump with a 5,10 metre leap.

In the girls u/17 800 metres, Ashley Kellar finished second. Another commendable performance was by Anita Van Zyl who came second in the girls’ u/17 1 500 metres.

Joshua Greeff scooped gold in the u/14 javelin.

Penryn’s executive head, Chris Erasmus, said the annual sporting competition lies close to all Penryn hearts.

“Each year we relish the opportunity to compete at an event of this stature and we appreciate the opportunity to enjoy the camaraderie and healthy sportsmanship evident in all the schools,” he said.

Erasmus also expressed appreciation to all the athletes and supporters.

“Some excellent results reflect the culmination of your hard work. We would like to congratulate and thank Barberton High School for the successful event, and also use this opportunity to wish Rob Ferreira all success in the organisation for the 2018 meet,” he said.
