LBT the largest tourney in the country

According to participants, it was indeed an incredibly tough day on the water, but amazingly the large population of small bass in Inyaka Dam contributed to 36 teams (80 per cent) managing to fill a limit of bass for the day.

Only one team blanked and eight teams found fish, but did not fill the limit.

A total of 199 fish were weighed in with a weight of 78,86 kilograms – an average of 0,396 kilograms per fish.

Team Venom Lures’ Frank and Ben Gottschalk are on a warpath, making fishing look easy. Amazingly, with their third successive victory at Inyaka this past weekend, they have managed to win each of the LBT events during the 2017 season – a feat never achieved during the LBT history.

In second place were Team Angling and Outdoor World, which unluckily drew a bad tag number, but made the most of the situation by not speeding off to the river inlets and focusing on shallow vegetation on main lake points.

Top three from Inyaka Dam.

The third-placed team, Nelspruit Ford, employed a variety of crankbaits in nine-to-11-foot water before finally narrowing it down to a white lipless crankbait and a Bill Norman Deep little N, making sure to mix in Rapala crankbaits as well.

Elandré Mocke of Team Largemouth hooked the largest bass. A solid Inyaka largemouth of 2,265 kilograms fooled just two hours before weigh-in with a jig in shallow water.

Results from Inyaka Dam
• Biggest bass: Team Largemouth – 2,265 kilograms
• Second biggest bass: Nelspruit ATV – 2,015 kilograms
• Lowrance big bass: Team Largemouth – 2,265 kilograms – R1 000 (Lowrance South Africa).

Team Venom Lures have increased their lead on the 2017 log from 4,365 points to a massive 7,310. But as with fishing, anything can happen.

Team Alligators have made an impressive jump from 10th position to sixth on the log. Likewise, Let’s Fish popped into the top nine moving from 12th to ninth, and Team Bullet have moved up six places to 10th overall on the log.

For the first time in LBT history, Nooitgedacht Dam will be the venue for the next LBT event on May 13.
Competition times will be from 07:00 and weigh-in at 15:00. Registration will open at 06:00.
