MBOMBELA – Bittereinder’s perfect combination of awesome beats, rhythm and poetry had its Lowveld fans enjoy its performance over the weekend.
The Afrikaans rap band performed live at the Jock Pub & Grill on Friday. The band’s dynamic has a magical quality to it.
The powerful lyrics and outstanding live performance engaged and enthralled the audience from start to finish.
The band performed for an hour, and the dance floor was jam-packed as fans partied, cheered and sang along to the rap lyrics of the talented trio.
“Nelspruit is a unique city,” said Jaco van der Merwe, rapper and lyricist.
“It definitely has a vibe to it. It’s like ‘intercultural chilling’. Everybody parties together, it doesn’t matter what race or culture you are. It’s great.”
Bittereinder consists of Van der Merwe; producer, vocalist and visual artist Louis Minnaar; and producer, mixer and vocalist Peach van Pletzen.
The band members have an impressive track record since forming in 2009.
They have successfully produced four albums, of which ‘n Ware Verhaal and Skerm won South African Music Awards (SAMAs).
They have also won and been nominated for numerous other awards over the years including MK, Tempo and other SAMAs.
They have performed all over South Africa, the Netherlands, Mozambique and Namibia.
The band has collaborated with other talented artists in South Africa with the likes of Jack Parow, Tumi Molekane, HemelBesem and Hunter Kennedy (Fokofpolisiekar/Die Heuwels Fantasies).
“We pride ourselves on a unique sound. Most other bands will have a musical influence and sound similar to them, but with us we rarely get that.
We have crafted something completely different here. It’s hard; electro dance beats with Afrikaans rap,” said Van der Merwe.
“We have lots of exciting things coming up, and are currently working on our fifth album.”
Bittereinder left its fans begging for more. After the show, band members stuck around to meet and chat to fans.
