A game has crowd in stitches

File: Skhumba on stage.

The show formed part of his second one-man show called First of All. Hlophe has achieved significant success on tour. Of the last 24 shows he did, 22 sold out.

On Saturday, he brought his A Game to Mbombela, treating his audience to two hours of side- splitting laughter.

Unlike many other comedians, no two shows of Hlophe’s are the same as he is always coming up with new material.

Hlophe, who is a resident comedian on Gauteng-based Kaya FM, was embroiled in controversy after he did an “inappropriate” joke about topless female protesters during the #FeesMustFall campaign.

That aside, his brand of comedy is that he tells stories about everyday things. His straight forwardness has given him an authenticity his fans easily relate to.

On Saturday, he joked about Jacob Zuma moving to Dubai and leaving his followers in abject poverty.

Coming from Hlophe, this scenario had the audience rolling with laughter, as did his anecdotes about his friendship with the uneducated, drunkard “Mandla”.

Talking about his fragmented family, particularly his eccentric aunt, had people crying with laughter.

According to Skhumba, the Mbombela crowd was the best.

“I feel like doing another show. You guys are so amazing. Thank you for showing me love.”
