Boundaries broken for people with disabilities

It is observed to promote awareness and mobilise support for critical issues relating to the inclusion and development of persons with disabilities in society.

December 3 is the International Day of Persons with Disabilities and is also celebrated as National Disability Rights
Awareness Day. It works to promote action to raise awareness about disability issues and draw attention to the benefits of an inclusive and accessible society for all.

This presented an opportunity for the department to build resilient, accessible and sustainable communities by forming partnership with Albinism SA.

Vanity packs were provided to people with albinism every quarter. This partnership has since benefitted 500 people with albinism in Mpumalanga.

A database of cooperatives owned by people with disabilities who are registered on the central supplier database was
developed, this database will assist in creating employment opportunities for people living with disabilities.

In ensuring equal access to socioeconomic opportunities for people with disabilities, the department celebrated and
applauded the employment and appointment opportunities of eight people with disabilities by two hospitals: Kiaat Private Hospital in White River and Mediclinic in Mbombela.
