The Department of Energy announced the petrol prices, which came to effect on 3 January. The international product prices of petrol, diesel and illuminating paraffin increased during the period under review (December 2017) but thanks to the strength of the rand to the dollar, the overall price of petrol decreased.
The average Rand/US Dollar exchange rate for the period 1 December 2017 to 27 December 2017 was R13,2303 compared to R14,0964 during the previous period. This led to a lower contribution to the Basic Fuels Price on petrol, diesel and illuminating paraffin by 42.03c/l, 42.75c/l and 42.90c/l respectively.
93 ULP petrol decreased by 29 cents per litre, while 95 ULP went down by 34 cents per litre.
The wholesale price of 0.005% diesel decreased by 26 cents per litre, while 0.05% diesel went down to 22 cents.
The Single Maximum National Retail Price for the period 3 January to 6 February 2018 will be R10.82 c/l compared to R11.19 c/l for the period 6 December 2017 to 2 January 2018.
